The Reality of Winter on the Streets
Every night, more than 100 people in Plymouth have nowhere safe to sleep.
For those sleeping rough, the cold bites deep — illnesses spread fast, and isolation takes its toll.
“It’s the loneliness that breaks you,” says Darren. “It’s the cold, the fear — and trying to beat drugs when you’ve got no help. You just feel like there’s no end to it all.”
At Path, we believe everyone deserves a safe home. That’s why our outreach team is out every day, providing food, warm clothing, and vital support — helping people move from the streets into safety and stability.

Darren’s Story
From the Streets to Stability
“There were times I didn’t think I’d ever get off the streets,” Darren says. “But then I met Jackie and Path. They got me into accommodation — and that was the start of everything changing.”
Darren spent years moving from place to place, never safe, never settled. He battled addiction, loss, and fear. When he came to Path, everything began to turn around.
“Path gave me a base, somewhere safe. I can cook, I can sleep, I can feel normal again. It might not sound a lot, but to someone who’s been on the streets for years, it means everything.”
Now, Darren is sober, reconnecting with his mum, and looking forward to moving into his own flat.
“Path gave me a place to live — and a reason to hope.”
