Could you help save lives this winter?

Evening Volunteers

Evening volunteers help prepare the venue, welcome guests, provide refreshments, support activities and assist with basic paperwork. This role is ideal for people who enjoy working as part of a team and want to make a practical difference in their community.

Night Volunteers

Night volunteers help provide a safe and supportive overnight environment for guests. Volunteers remain awake throughout their shift, carry out regular welfare checks and respond to any issues that may arise, supported by Path staff and clear procedures.

We know that not everyone can commit to a full night, so flexible options are available (split shifts).

What We Offer

· Full induction and training

· Ongoing support from experienced Path staff

· A welcoming and supportive volunteer team

· The opportunity to make a real difference within your community

· Valuable experience within homelessness and community support services

Time Commitment

We ask volunteers to commit to one regular shift per week wherever possible. A consistent volunteer team helps create a welcoming and familiar environment for guests, while also allowing volunteers to build confidence, develop relationships and get the most from their experience with Project 58:7.

If you'd like to be part of this year's project, we'd love to hear from you. Please complete the volunteer form and we will get back in touch or contact recruitment@pathdevon.org to arrange an informal chat.

Enhanced DBS check required.

Volunteer with our Winter Night Shelter Team (Project 58:7)

Every winter, Project 58:7 provides emergency overnight accommodation for people who would otherwise be sleeping rough in Plymouth. Delivered by Path working in partnership with Transforming Plymouth Together and local churches, the project offers a warm, safe place to stay alongside practical support and pathways into longer-term accommodation.

Last year we provided safe overnight shelter for 73 people, prevented 22 people from spending their first night sleeping rough, and helped 89% of guests move into longer-term accommodation.

We're now looking for volunteers to join our team for winter 2026/27, from October through to March.

Whether you can offer a few hours in the evening or support us through the night, your time could make a significant difference. Volunteers help create a welcoming environment, offer practical support and work alongside experienced Path staff to ensure guests are safe and supported.

No previous experience is required. All volunteers will receive training, ongoing support and guidance from experienced Path staff throughout the season.
